The Story Behind Furnitureguy.ie

Furnitureguy.ie is the creative vision of Steve O'Connor, a Dublin native whose roots stretch across both sides of the city.

Born on Dublin’s Northside in the early 1980s and raised in Clontarf, Steve later spent much of his formative school years on the Southside. In true Dublin fashion, he was often asked the familiar question: “Are you a Northsider or a Southsider?”

Unable to choose, he coined his own term — a “NoSo.” Yet deep down, he always knew his heart belonged to the Northside.

A Creative Turning Point

In 2013, following a personal crossroads, Steve made the courageous decision to change direction professionally. While he wasn’t certain of the path ahead, he knew one thing: he was drawn to creativity.

The arts had always intrigued him. With a naturally imaginative mind and a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, he soon discovered the world of upcycling — and with it, his calling.

From that moment, Furnitureguy.ie was born: a brand dedicated to creating bespoke, upcycled furniture and accessories for both residential and commercial interiors.

Mastering the Craft

Steve has trained and collaborated with some of the most respected names in decorative finishes and furniture artistry, including:

  • Annie Sloan
  • General Finishes (Milk Paint)
  • Aileen Hogan of Shabby.ie
  • Fleetwood Paint (Shabby/Fleetwood Paint Collection)
  • Fusion Mineral Paint
  • Kata Roberts of Studio 27, Chelmsford

This continuous refinement of skill ensures that every piece leaving the workshop reflects both technical excellence and artistic integrity.

The Philosophy

Each item is meticulously restored and hand-painted to the highest standard, resulting in a finish that is entirely unique.

At Furnitureguy.ie, the aim is not simply to refinish furniture — it is to reimagine it. Tired and forgotten pieces are transformed into striking statement designs while preserving the memories they carry.

These are pieces that effortlessly grace elegant interiors — whether harmonising with existing décor or standing confidently alone as a centrepiece.

Because true luxury is not mass-produced.
It is imagined, crafted, and made just for you.

Be Smart. Be Creative. Be Bespoke.
