The Fuchsia is an original illustration in our botanical series.
While not a native plant to Ireland, the fuchsia has been known to grow wild in hedgerows and at road sides. They have bell shaped flowers that flare like a skirt. It was named after the German botanist, Leonhart Fuchs and originated in South America.
The Irish for fuchsia is fiúise (an Irish spelling of the English word) or deora dé (God's tears).
